Sophia Momodu Launches Legal Action Against Caroline Hutchings Over Alleged Defamation, Seeks ₦10 Billion Damages

Nigerian socialite and reality television personality, Sophia Momodu, has commenced legal action against Nollywood actress Caroline Hutchings over an alleged defamatory Snapchat post that generated widespread speculation online.

According to Ireporter Online, Sophia Momodu, through her legal representatives, Prince (Dr) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, of Ahonaruogho, Ahonaruogho & Co. (Paradise Law Firm), issued a Notice of Intended Legal Proceedings against Caroline Hutchings, demanding a public retraction, an unreserved apology, and ₦10 billion in damages.

The legal action reportedly stems from a Snapchat post made by Caroline, in which she alleged that a woman she had previously defended publicly had been romantically involved with her former partner during their relationship. Although the actress did not mention any individual by name, the post sparked widespread reactions, with some social media users linking the claims to Sophia Momodu.

In the legal notice, Sophia’s lawyers stated that the publication was interpreted by members of the public as referring to their client, leading to alleged damage to her reputation, emotional distress, online attacks, and continued cyberbullying.

The notice revealed that Sophia had earlier attempted to resolve the matter peacefully by reaching out to Caroline Hutchings on July 3, 2026, requesting clarification and asking that a public statement be issued if the post was not directed at her.

However, according to her legal team, Caroline allegedly failed to respond or provide any clarification, allowing public speculation surrounding the matter to persist.

Sophia Momodu’s lawyers have now demanded an immediate withdrawal of the alleged defamatory statement, a public apology published in widely circulated national newspapers, ₦10 billion in compensation, and other legal remedies.

The notice reportedly warned that failure by Caroline Hutchings to meet the demands within the specified period would result in the commencement of formal court proceedings.
