In an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Simmons said, “Joe Biden has been a remarkable president, fulfilling many of his campaign promises. However, there’s one final promise he could fulfill: transitioning leadership to Kamala Harris. He could resign in the next 30 days, making her the President of the United States.”

This call for a leadership change comes after the November 5, 2024 U.S. presidential election, in which former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Harris. Trump’s victories in key swing states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, led to his election as the 47th President of the U.S., with an inauguration scheduled for January 2025.

Simmons’ suggestion comes amid ongoing debates within the Democratic Party over leadership transitions and the party’s future following their recent defeat.

In other news, the Kremlin has denied reports suggesting a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President-elect Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine conflict. Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s press secretary, called the report “completely false information.”
