The 44-year-old succumbed to her injuries on Monday night at a private hospital in Abuja, where she had been receiving treatment following the attack.

Last Thursday, suspected bandits targeted a vehicle that was transporting both the governor’s mother, Jummai Kefas, and Atsi along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area.

During the incident, Atsi sustained gunshot wounds and was initially treated at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being transferred to Abuja for specialized care.

Dauda Samaila Agbu, the chairman of the Wukari council, confirmed the attack to reporters and expressed his sorrow over the incident. He described the situation as “deeply troubling” and noted that Atsi’s injuries required her transfer to Abuja for further medical treatment.

Although the state government and the Kefas family have not officially announced her passing, a reliable family source informed Premium Times on Tuesday morning that Atsi died Monday night.

Her death has led to an outpouring of grief on social media, with many individuals sharing their condolences.
