During the meeting, Tinubu highlighted significant reforms in Nigeria, such as tax changes, import duty waivers for machinery, and a more decentralized power generation system. “We are ensuring there is no bureaucracy in setting up businesses. The reforms in place will foster a business-friendly climate,” said Tinubu, expressing optimism about the potential for partnership with Germany.

The discussions also touched on strengthening people-to-people relations, with Tinubu underscoring Nigeria’s energy resources and potential in renewable energy, including solar power. He noted the country’s strategic position as a major gas producer, with opportunities for collaboration with Germany in clean energy projects, especially for rural electrification.

Addressing power challenges, Tinubu acknowledged the ongoing work with Siemens Energy but cautioned that improvements to Nigeria’s aging power infrastructure would take time, citing the decades-old transmission lines.

Steinmeier, for his part, reiterated that Nigeria, as Germany’s second-largest trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, offers substantial potential for greater business and cultural exchange. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and fostering mutual understanding, particularly through educational and youth training exchanges.
