The minister made the statement during the distribution of operational vehicles to security agencies at the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja. He said that some of the structures pose security risks, while others were built on lands belonging to the government.

Wike insisted that there is no going back and vowed to pursue more illegally constructed buildings and shanties. He stated that anyone who thinks they can take government land without formal approval will be stopped, regardless of their status or occupation.

The move has triggered backlash and protests, but Wike is determined to pursue his agenda. The Senate has also ordered a probe into the demolitions, setting up a committee to look into the development.

Wike’s statement came as a response to criticisms and backlash from residents and stakeholders, who have been affected by the demolition exercise.
