The annual remembrance, held on January 15, pays tribute to servicemen who fought in World War I, World War II, and the Nigerian Civil War. Abiodun stressed that commemorating these heroes and caring for their loved ones is crucial to preserving their legacies.

“We not only honor those who paid the ultimate price, but we also recognize the families they left behind—their widows, widowers, and children. Let’s not wait for a single day to show appreciation; instead, let’s remember them in our little ways every day,” the governor stated.

He urged Nigerians to demonstrate compassion, saying, “Many of these families don’t ask for much; a simple gesture of care and acknowledgment can mean the world to them. These heroes made sacrifices most of us would never dare, and we owe it to them to keep Nigeria united and strong.”

The solemn event included a gun salute, the symbolic release of pigeons, and a wreath-laying ceremony by the governor and other dignitaries.
