Peter Obi, Police Driver Violated Basic Parking Regulation’ – Presidency Responds To Keyamo’s Seven-Day Ultimatum

According to Ireporter Online, the development followed a statement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who revealed that investigations into the incident showed that claims by Obi that his vehicle was unfairly clamped as part of a deliberate move by the federal government were inaccurate.

Keyamo had launched an inquiry after Obi publicly alleged that actions by the Bola Tinubu administration were making his movements difficult and affecting his activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The minister explained that findings from the investigation showed that the former Anambra State governor’s vehicle was improperly parked at the airport on July 4, 2026, leading airport security officials to clamp the tyres after allowing sufficient time for the parking violation to be corrected.

Keyamo stated that Obi had already stepped out of the vehicle before the clamping took place, making it impossible for airport officials to have identified the car as belonging to him or intentionally targeted him.

He further alleged that after the police officer who drove the vehicle informed Obi about the situation, the former Labour Party presidential candidate intervened and had the vehicle released without paying the required penalty, despite the violation.

Reacting to the matter, Onanuga, in a statement shared on his official X account, said the evidence presented by Keyamo had disproved Obi’s claims of being targeted or politically persecuted.

He argued that the minister’s explanation provided clarity on how the vehicle breached airport parking rules, was clamped by security officials, and was later released without payment of the mandatory fine.

Onanuga added that Keyamo had insisted that Obi should pay the ₦25,000 penalty for what he described as wrongful and dangerous parking at the airport.

The presidential aide maintained that the incident was not an act of persecution but a simple enforcement of airport regulations, insisting that both Obi and his police driver were responsible for the parking violation.
