Speaking at the national conference on strengthening democracy in Abuja on Monday, Shettima, represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, acknowledged the challenges within Nigeria’s democratic system while emphasizing its superiority to other forms of governance.

Themed “Strengthening Nigeria’s Democracy: Pathways to Good Governance and Political Integrity”, the conference was organized by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development.

“While democracy may be imperfect, it remains the best system of government,” Shettima said. “We will listen, adjust where necessary, and account for our actions in all areas where our democracy demands stewardship. I am confident Nigeria will rise again, fulfill its potential, and become a global leader. Our young people will champion a system that reflects their aspirations.”

He added that the administration would continue working to address critical challenges by improving the economy, securing communities, combating corruption, ensuring free and fair elections, and reinforcing the judiciary’s independence.

Shettima also called on Nigerians to support the Bola Tinubu-led administration in its efforts to strengthen democracy and improve governance, describing the journey as challenging but ultimately rewarding.

“The quality of our democratic system remains a priority for this administration,” Shettima emphasized.
