brutal clash.

According to Zagazola Makama, who shared details on his X account, the deadly encounter occurred near Kachalla Kellori village in Mobbar Local Government Area, Borno State, on January 20. ISWAP launched a powerful offensive, forcing JAS fighters to retreat in disarray toward Gashigar.

During the pursuit, ISWAP captured several fleeing JAS members, while others sought refuge in nearby abandoned villages. In retaliation, JAS launched a counteroffensive against ISWAP forces at Maleri Zoriaya village, about 2 kilometers southeast of Kachalla Kellori, on the night of January 21.

This clash highlights the growing tensions between the two factions, driven by competition for territorial control and dominance over key smuggling routes linking Geidam and Diffa (Niger) to the Lake Chad Region Basin Area (LCRBA).
