today at the Sani Abacha Stadium, will proceed as planned despite initial security concerns.
The police had issued a warning following intelligence reports indicating potential terrorist threats targeting public events in key areas of the state. As a precaution, officers were deployed to monitor the venue.
However, the Kano State Government quickly condemned the police’s actions, accusing them of attempting to disrupt an event that has been held peacefully for 39 years. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, denounced the police’s actions as “unnecessary” and “unjustified,” calling for federal intervention to allow the event to take place without interference.
In response, the police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, reassured the public on Saturday morning, explaining that the police’s actions were aimed at maintaining order and security. He also warned of potential criminal activities, including mobile phone theft at the event, urging attendees to be cautious of individuals setting up charging stations with malicious intent.
Despite the tension, the National Tijjaniyya Maulud will proceed as planned, with large crowds already gathering at the stadium.
