The incident involved a Max Air aircraft, registered as 5N-MBD, which suffered a tyre burst while landing. The plane, carrying 53 passengers, lost its nose landing gear tyre during the process. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members disembarked safely without injuries.

In a statement shared on its official X handle, Max Air commended its crew for professionally managing the situation, ensuring a safe evacuation.

“We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday,” the airline stated.

As a result, the airport’s runway was temporarily closed for inspection and clearance, causing potential delays in flight schedules on Wednesday. The airline later confirmed that the aircraft was removed from the runway at 4:28 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed an immediate and thorough inspection of the runway. Efforts to get comments from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau were unsuccessful, as officials did not respond to calls or messages.

This incident comes just weeks after another Max Air flight caught fire in December 2024, forcing an emergency landing shortly after takeoff from Maiduguri Airport. Among the nearly 100 passengers on board was Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, who narrowly escaped harm.
