Political Storm In Senate! Natasha Akpoti Rejects ‘Unjust’ Suspension, Vows To Serve Till 2027

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has strongly condemned her suspension from the Senate, labeling it as both unfair and unlawful.

According to Ireporteronline, Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended following a tense exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements on February 20…….READ MORE Shortly after, she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim later dismissed by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions on procedural grounds. Committee Chairman Neda Imaseun ruled that the petition was “dead on arrival” because it was personally signed by Akpoti-Uduaghan, which, according to Senate rules, rendered it invalid.

Despite a court injunction restraining the Senate from taking disciplinary action regarding the dispute, the legislative body proceeded with her suspension.

Taking to Facebook on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan asserted that the decision does not undermine her authority as a senator nor deter her from performing her duties.

“Against the culture of silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate violates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity,” she stated.

Reaffirming her dedication to her constituents, she added, “This illegal suspension does not take away my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I will continue to serve my people and my country to the best of my ability until 2027 and beyond.”

Her suspension has triggered widespread debate, with many questioning the fairness of the Senate’s decision and its broader implications for democracy and justice in Nigeria.
