Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration has announced plans to investigate the use of $10 million approved under former Governor Godwin Obaseki. Edo PDP Chairman, Chris Nehikhare, criticized the decision, arguing that it was unnecessary to question the funds used to equip Observer Press. In response, Itua dismissed Nehikhare’s statement as misleading and insisted that the funds were hastily allocated before the 2024 governorship election.

Itua alleged that Obaseki mismanaged state resources and described him as a “portfolio scam artist” who funneled public funds through The Observer Newspaper. He further claimed that the acquired printing equipment was inefficient and required additional spending to function properly.

He also criticized the PDP for defending the expenditure, questioning why $10 million was allocated to a state-owned newspaper while critical sectors such as healthcare and education remained underfunded.
