INEC Replaces Yusuf With Agbo As NNPP National Chairman On Official Portal

According to reports, the development was disclosed during a press briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday, with checks confirming that Agbo’s name had been uploaded on INEC’s official portal as the recognised national chairman of the opposition party.

The electoral body also updated its records to reflect members of the party’s National Working Committee, including National Secretary Olaposi Oginni, National Treasurer Prince Adetoyese Omokanye, National Financial Secretary Anthony Apugo, and National Legal Adviser Asuquo Ibok.

The latest move represents a significant development in the prolonged leadership crisis that has affected the NNPP since the 2023 general elections, as rival groups had continued to lay claim to the party’s leadership structure.

Speaking on the recognition, Agbo described INEC’s update as confirmation of his leadership and a new chapter for the party. He said the decision would strengthen the NNPP’s preparations for future political engagements, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Agbo stated that the party’s recognised National Working Committee had been fully uploaded by INEC, adding that the development had restored confidence in the party’s leadership and ended what he described as a period of internal challenges.

He also noted that the party had commenced preparations for the 2027 elections after receiving access codes from INEC to upload candidates’ details on the electoral body’s nomination portal.

According to him, the NNPP is committed to presenting credible and competent candidates who will promote good governance and national development, while also welcoming Nigerians interested in contributing to political change.

The NNPP chairman further called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward tackling insecurity in the country. He urged improved intelligence gathering, stronger cooperation among security institutions, and the use of lawful measures to restore peace and protect citizens.

Agbo also appealed to INEC to maintain neutrality and professionalism ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that public confidence in democracy depends on the credibility and independence of the electoral commission.

Meanwhile, Bala Yusuf, who was replaced on INEC’s portal, acknowledged awareness of the development when contacted. However, he said he was unable to provide detailed comments at the time, promising to issue a formal statement after returning to Abuja.
