Kano State Condemns The Killing Of Travelers In Edo

The Kano State government has strongly condemned the mob attack and subsequent killing of travelers accused of kidnapping in Edo State.

In a statement issued by the Kano Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the government described the act as “heinous” and called for a decisive response from security and judicial bodies.

The statement read, “All individuals involved in this atrocity, including any law enforcement officers who may have failed in their duties, must be held accountable.”

Waiya further reminded Nigerian authorities of their obligation under international law to protect the rights and lives of citizens, stressing that violence and torture must never go unpunished.

He urged both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo to denounce this act unequivocally and to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly prosecuted in a fair and transparent manner.

Waiya also pointed out that the Uromi tragedy is part of a larger and alarming trend of vigilante violence across the country. He called for immediate punitive and preventive measures to restore the rule of law, emphasizing that impunity must be challenged.

The Kano government reiterated the importance of safeguarding human rights and urged steps to prevent future occurrences of such violence.
