“Lies, Malice, and Misinformation” – Senator Orji Breaks Silence On EFCC Fraud Probe
Former Abia State Governor and serving Senator, Theodore Orji, has strongly denied any involvement in the alleged ₦228.4 million fraud linked to Effdee Nigeria Limited, describing the reports as a calculated attempt to tarnish his image…….READ MORE
The denial comes after media reports cited a motion by the EFCC at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking the final forfeiture of the said sum. In a statement released by his liaison office on Tuesday, Orji dismissed the allegations as “false, baseless, and malicious.”
Orji’s camp also flagged an error in the report which claimed he was governor in 2016 and 2017—years after his actual tenure ended in 2015. He said such a mistake exposed the lack of proper verification on the part of the publishers.
He further distanced himself from Effdee Nigeria Limited and two individuals—Mr. Uchenna Erondu and Mr. Austin Akuma—who were reportedly linked to the case. Orji emphasized he had no ties with either the company or the persons mentioned.
Highlighting his reputation for integrity, the Senator demanded a public retraction from all media outlets that published the report.
Meanwhile, the EFCC insists it traced the ₦228.4 million to Effdee Nigeria Limited, which it claims was involved in defrauding the Abia State Government through alleged conspiracy, diversion of public funds, and other financial crimes.
The commission also revealed that Orji, along with former government officials and family members, are under investigation following intelligence reports linking them to the alleged misconduct.
The court hearing has been fixed for May 28.
