Breaking: Ibas Names New Rivers Electoral Commission Members Despite Court Ban (Full List)

This was made known in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, and released on Wednesday morning.

Alongside Odey, six other individuals were appointed as members of the electoral commission. The full list is as follows:

1. Dr. Michael Ekpai Odey – Chairman

2. Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira – Member

3. Prof. (Dr.) Arthur Nwafor – Member

4. Prof. Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha – Member

5. Prof. (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor – Member

6. Dr. (Mrs.) Olive A. Bruce – Member

7. Prof. Chidi Halliday – Member

This development comes shortly after Ibas appointed administrators across all 23 local government areas of the state—a move that defies a Federal High Court order in Port Harcourt restraining such appointments.

Justice Adam Muhammed issued the order in suit No. FHC/PH/CS/46/2025 filed by the PILEX Centre for Civic Education Initiative, led by Courage Msirimovu, against Ibas in his official capacity.

Despite the legal restriction, the Rivers Sole Administrator also reinstated previously suspended boards of various state agencies, commissions, and parastatals. This decision was also announced by Prof. Worika in the same government release.
