Speaking at the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Obi reassured party members of his commitment, saying he has never discussed exiting the party with anyone.

“I’ve not told anybody that I’m leaving the Labour Party,” Obi stated, stressing that any decisions about the party’s direction will involve all stakeholders.

He urged members to remain united and fearless amid Nigeria’s current challenges, describing the country as being “on the brink of collapse.”

“Do not fear anybody. Those who were afraid yesterday didn’t do any better. Nigeria is collapsing. The numbers are clear – people are getting poorer every day,” he added.

Obi emphasized the importance of loyalty and competence among members ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that the party must field only the best candidates.

“We want to correct past mistakes. Anyone seeking to contest under our party must be committed and competentnot just passing through,” he said.
