Tension Rocks PDP Headquarters as Staff Walk Out Over Anyanwu’s Comeback Bid
A wave of unrest swept through the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Monday as employees staged a dramatic walkout to protest Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s controversial attempt to retake his position as the party’s National Secretary.
According to Naija News, the protest unfolded weeks after the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) officially appointed Setonji Koshoedo as Acting National Secretary—a decision previously welcomed by staff at the Wadata Plaza secretariat.
Eyewitnesses reported that Anyanwu stormed the premises accompanied by aides and alleged thugs, heading directly to the office of the National Secretary in what many staff members described as an aggressive and uninvited intrusion.
Rather than confront him physically, staff members collectively shut down operations and exited the building, leaving the party secretariat completely deserted. One employee recounted, “We didn’t argue. We just left. When he realized no one was cooperating with him, his aides advised him to leave.”
The protest was interpreted as an open show of support for the NWC’s leadership and their earlier decision to replace Anyanwu through what staff described as “transparent and procedural internal processes.”
Back in May, employees had publicly pledged their allegiance to the current party leadership and denounced actions they saw as divisive, especially with the 2027 elections approaching.
In the aftermath of the incident, murmurs intensified within the party ranks, with some accusing Anyanwu of acting as a political saboteur, allegedly planted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to disrupt the PDP from within.
The situation has added to growing internal tension, raising concerns about party unity ahead of upcoming political battles.
