The Presidency has taken a swipe at Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, over his renewed promise to serve only a single four-year term if elected, describing the vow as dishonest and inconsistent with his political history, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, lambasted Obi in a Sunday night post on X, accusing him of hypocrisy and questioning his moral right to make such a bold pledge.

He argued that Obi, despite claiming to be guided by principle, had previously served two terms as Anambra State governor and even sought re-election, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE.

Onanuga further reminded Nigerians of Obi’s broken political promises — most notably, his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after pledging loyalty to the party.

He claimed that Obi’s track record suggests he is unlikely to keep his one-term commitment if elected.

In his words: “Peter Obi, the liar, is exposed again. You’re neither Mandela, Lincoln, nor Kennedy. You make it sound as if you’ve never held public office before.

Why didn’t you step aside after one term as governor? You broke that vow, just like you broke your APGA promise.”

Obi’s recent declaration, in which he compared himself to global icons like Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln, was met with skepticism by the Presidency, which warned Nigerians not to be swayed by “deceptive rhetoric,” ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE.
