Deadly Brotherhood: Tragedy Strikes As Cult Initiation Claims Life In Edo

A suspected cultist has been taken into police custody in connection with a secret initiation ritual that tragically led to the death of one Prosper Ezekiel in Edo State.

According to iReporter Online, the incident occurred on Saturday, August 2, 2025, when Ezekiel, aged 25, reportedly slumped during an initiation into the notorious Black Axe cult group inside Warrake forest, located in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.

Police spokesman CSP Moses Joel revealed that Prosper Ezekiel, Cosmos Ado (32), and Redeem Afeabor—residents of Afeokpella Community in Okpella—entered the forest for the initiation ritual.

According to iReporter Online, Ezekiel collapsed mid-ritual and was rushed to a nearby medical facility in Jattu, where he was unfortunately confirmed dead by a doctor.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Auchi Division arrested Cosmos Ado in connection with the incident. The police visited the scene of the initiation and recovered four expended cartridges as part of the investigation.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full-scale probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident and directed that all other suspects involved be tracked down and arrested.

According to iReporter Online, CP Agbonika reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism and warned that anyone found guilty of cult-related activities will face the full force of the law.

He also appealed to parents, community leaders, and religious institutions to work with law enforcement in steering youths away from criminal associations.
