Kaduna Police Recover Military-Grade Bombs, Ammunition at Scrap Depot

Authorities in Kaduna State have recovered unexploded military ordnance and a cache of arms and ammunition from a scrap facility in the Kudendan Industrial Layout, sparking heightened security concerns and renewed scrutiny of consignments originating from conflict-prone regions.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Kaduna State Police Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit launched a swift operation on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The operation followed reports that suspicious materials—later identified as unexploded bombs—had been found in a shipment of waste material brought in from Borno State.

In a formal statement, a spokesperson for the police, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed that the bomb squad had recovered military-grade unexploded ordnance from a scavenger company operating within the industrial zone. The items were confirmed to be hazardous weapons and were safely evacuated to a secure location for controlled detonation in accordance with established safety procedures.

In addition to the unexploded bombs, the police recovered several other dangerous weapons, including a locally made revolver loaded with six live rounds, 15 rounds of 7.2mm ammunition, three live cartridges, and various other live rounds.

Following the operation, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, ordered the immediate shutdown of the scrap facility and instructed a comprehensive search of the premises to ensure no additional explosives remained undetected.

The Commissioner also issued a strict directive to scrap dealers and scavenger companies across the state, warning them against accepting materials from volatile zones, particularly Borno State. He emphasized that any breach of the new directive would attract full legal consequences.

All Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been tasked with monitoring scavenger-related activities and ensuring strict compliance with the directive. The police urged residents of Kaduna to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity around industrial areas and scrapyards.

Security analysts say the incident highlights the potential risks posed by unregulated waste transportation and underscores the need for improved surveillance and intelligence sharing in vulnerable sectors.

According to law enforcement officials, the public remains a critical partner in crime prevention. Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state and called for continued public cooperation.
