Tech Revolution Ignites Nigeria’s Manufacturing Future – Minister Declares
Nigeria’s manufacturing sector is currently experiencing a transformative shift powered by technological integration and strategic government support. This was disclosed by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. John Enoh, during a keynote address at the Nigerian Raw Materials (NIRAM) Expo, held alongside the Nigeria Manufacturing and Equipment (NME) Expo 2025.
Highlighting the ongoing revolution in the industry, the minister noted that innovations such as artificial intelligence, automation, smart infrastructure, and energy-efficient systems are redefining the boundaries of industrial capability in the country. He emphasized that the government remains fully committed to enabling policies and conditions that support manufacturing enterprises and industrial growth.
Since assuming office, the minister stated that he has focused on restoring confidence in the sector by ensuring a consistent government presence and creating a more business-friendly environment. He reiterated the administration’s stance against excessive importation and exploitation of raw materials, calling for a renewed focus on local production to drive national economic expansion.
Dr. Enoh also revealed that work is at an advanced stage on a new national industrial policy, which aligns with the broader economic diversification goals of the current administration. The draft policy prioritizes technology adoption, equipment financing, and power integration as core components of industrial renewal. This framework, he explained, is being developed in collaboration with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and other key industry stakeholders.
Stressing the urgency of adapting to global trends, the minister warned that Nigeria must not lag behind in an era where automation and smart technologies are rapidly transforming the global manufacturing landscape. He pointed to the country’s abundant raw materials, strategic location, and large youth population as competitive advantages that must be leveraged.
Adding to the discourse, the President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Francis Meshioye, described the exhibition as a platform to challenge conventional practices and envision a stronger, more competitive manufacturing future. He emphasized the importance of innovation and collective strategy in achieving industry sustainability, citing the event’s theme on accelerating manufacturing through advanced equipment and technology.
Also addressing the forum, the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, underlined the link between industrial advancement and national development. He disclosed that the bank is working closely with government agencies to launch an Innovation Fund aimed at commercializing emerging production methods. Additionally, a new impact fund is being established to support growth-stage enterprises across the full manufacturing value chain, particularly through equity-based investments, marking a significant departure from the bank’s traditional lending model.
These initiatives, officials noted, are geared toward fostering innovation, enhancing value addition, and positioning Nigeria’s manufacturing sector for long-term economic transformation and global competitiveness.
