Rivers ALGON Chairmen Endorse Tinubu For 2027, Hail Development Achievements
According to Ireporter Online, the 23 local government chairmen in Rivers State, under the auspices of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), together with ward councillors, have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, attended by all the chairmen, their deputies, councillors, and other dignitaries. During the event, the chairmen highlighted the President’s achievements, emphasizing his dedication to Rivers State and its residents.
Charles Wobodo, Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, praised Tinubu for advancing infrastructure development and human-capacity programs nationwide. He noted the positive impact of the subsidy-removal intervention programs and lauded the appointment of an Ikwerre indigene, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni. Wobodo stated that these accomplishments informed his support for Tinubu’s second-term bid and stressed the importance of continuity to consolidate ongoing reforms and development projects.
Awell Ihundah, Rivers ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, commended Tinubu for appointing prominent Rivers indigenes to key positions. He highlighted appointees such as Chief Nyesom Wike as Minister of the FCT, Boma Iyaye as Executive Director (Finance) of the NDDC, Dr. George-Kelly Alabo as Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency, Flag Amachree as Director of Energy in the Office of the National Security Adviser, and others in strategic federal roles.
Chief Obarilomate Ollor, ALGON Secretary and Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, also recognized the President’s interventions and appointments that benefited Eleme. He cited projects including the reconstruction of the Eleme axis of the East–West Road and plans to dredge and modernize the Rivers Port, Onne Port, and Calabar Port under the federal port modernization program. He further commended federal initiatives such as the presidential pardon for the late Ogoni activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and the establishment of the University of Environment.
Leaders of the legislative councils in the state also expressed support for President Tinubu’s 2027 bid. The motion for endorsement was moved by Dr. Chidi Lloyd, Chairman of Emuoha Local Government Area, and seconded by Thomas Bariere, Chairman of Khana Local Government Area. With a unanimous voice vote, ALGON Rivers State officially adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
