According to Ireporter Online, the disagreement arose after Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly staged a protest at the office of the NCDC Committee Chairman, alleging a deliberate attempt to sideline her from enjoying her rights and privileges as a senator from Kogi Central.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Zam dismissed the claims, describing his colleague’s actions as stemming from a misunderstanding of the Senate’s committee structure. He maintained that Akpoti-Uduaghan is not a member of the NCDC committee and therefore was not eligible to be invited to its budget defence session.

The lawmaker explained that two other senators from Kogi State are members of the committee, noting that one serves as Vice Chairman while another is a regular member. He further clarified that committee membership is structured to reflect national character, with senators from different geopolitical zones distributed across various development commissions.

Zam added that several senators from the North Central zone are not members of the NCDC, citing examples to underscore that representation on the committee is not determined solely by regional origin. He stated that following a brief exchange in his office, he advised Akpoti-Uduaghan to channel her grievance to the Senate Committee on Selection if she believed she had been unfairly treated. The confrontation, he said, ended after a series of exchanges, with the Kogi Central lawmaker eventually leaving his office.
