Presidency: El-Rufai To Face Consequences For Tapping NSA Ribadu’s Phone
According to Ireporter Online, the presidency has demanded a full investigation into former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for allegedly wiretapping the phone of National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, with calls for appropriate punishment.
El-Rufai, in an interview on ARISE Television, recounted his prior knowledge of an attempted arrest at Abuja International Airport and admitted that he and associates listened in on Ribadu’s telephone conversations after learning that an individual had tapped the NSA’s phone. He defended the action, acknowledging it is “technically illegal” but claiming that such surveillance is routinely conducted by the government.
Reacting to the disclosure, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Festus Onanuga, expressed concern about the national security implications. In a post via his handle, Onanuga emphasized that El-Rufai is not above the law, stating that the matter must be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate sanctions should be applied.
