According to Ireporter Online, award-winning Nigerian singer Davido Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially withdrawn his legal bid for joint custody of his daughter, Imade. The singer and his first child’s mother, Sophia Momodu, appeared in court on Thursday, February 12, for a hearing concerning the custody dispute.

The court session became tense when Sophia Momodu’s lawyer questioned how Davido could ensure Imade’s safety, referencing the death of his son Ifeanyi in October 2022. The comment reportedly angered Davido, who confronted the lawyer in the courtroom, causing a temporary halt in proceedings. When the session resumed, the judge requested that Davido apologize, but he reportedly declined, stating he could not accept the deceased son being used against him.

In a post on his handle on Friday, Davido explained that no one “won” in the dispute and emphasized that the real loss was his daughter. He confirmed he had dropped the case, expressing hope that Imade would grow up knowing he fought for her.

He wrote, in part, that he never sought full custody but joint custody, and described the mention of his deceased son as “a no-no” and the “lowest blow.” He concluded his statement with a message of moving on and love for his daughter.
