Lagos Govt Orders Immediate Closure Of Ladipo Market
According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of Ladipo Spare Parts Market, located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, over persistent violations of environmental regulations.
The decision was confirmed on Sunday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed the development via a post on social media. Authorities explained that the market, situated along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, was sealed following repeated observations of indiscriminate waste dumping on road medians and highways, as well as widespread illegal street trading.
The enforcement action was carried out by the Lagos State taskforce as part of ongoing efforts to uphold environmental laws across the state. Government officials stressed that the measures were taken in the interest of public health, safety, and urban cleanliness.
Ladipo Market had previously faced sanctions for similar environmental infractions and was reopened only after complying with stipulated sanitation and waste management requirements. However, officials noted that continued non-compliance necessitated the latest closure.
The state government reiterated that all markets and commercial hubs in Lagos must strictly adhere to environmental standards to prevent hazards, disorder, and degradation of public spaces, warning that violations would attract decisive enforcement actions.
