Atiku Condemns Political Assault, Calls For End To Violence

Atiku described the incident as unacceptable, stressing that no Nigerian should be subjected to violence because of their political beliefs or opinions, regardless of differences in ideology.

The former vice president reacted to reports that Tempo Mudi, identified as a Protocol Officer to the Delta State Governor, was allegedly attacked by some youths while participating in a campaign event in support of President Tinubu’s re-election at the Petroleum Training Institute Conference Centre in Effurun, Delta State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku maintained that democracy depends on peaceful engagement, debate and respect for opposing views rather than intimidation or physical confrontation.

He acknowledged the growing frustration among Nigerians over economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, rising living costs and declining purchasing power. However, he insisted that public grievances must be expressed through lawful and democratic channels.

Atiku stated that while citizens have the right to demand accountability from leaders, violence cannot provide solutions to the nation’s challenges. He urged Nigerians to use the electoral process as the appropriate means of changing leadership and expressing dissatisfaction.

The ADC presidential candidate encouraged citizens to rely on their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a tool for democratic change, rather than resorting to physical attacks or confrontations.

He further appealed to youths in Delta State and across the country to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to democratic values.

Atiku also urged opposition supporters to distinguish themselves by promoting tolerance, civility and respect for the rights of all citizens, including those with different political affiliations.
