Tinubu To 2027 Opponents: You Can’t Keep Me At Home, We’ll Fight It Out Politically

President Bola Tinubu has declared that he is prepared to fiercely contest the 2027 presidential election, insisting he will not make it easy for political opponents seeking to unseat him.

According to Ireporter Online, the President made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu stressed that democracy provides equal opportunities for political competition but maintained that he would not step aside without a contest.

He said those seeking to take power from him were free to try but would have to defeat him through a fair democratic process, adding that he would not hand any advantage to his opponents and was ready to battle them until the end.

During the meeting, which lasted for about an hour, the President also defended his administration’s economic reforms, stating that although the policies had been difficult, they were beginning to produce tangible results. He cited the uninterrupted academic calendar in public institutions as one of the visible gains Nigerians could appreciate.

Tinubu also addressed the long-standing issue of returning mission schools to their original owners, noting that he restored several mission schools to the Catholic Church during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007.

He, however, explained that the authority to return mission schools rests with state governments rather than the Federal Government, urging the bishops to engage directly with governors on the matter instead of seeking constitutional amendments.

Speaking on national security and unity, the President described Nigeria’s security challenges as longstanding issues that require collective commitment to overcome. He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to build a nation founded on unity, stability and prosperity for future generations, stressing that Nigerians must work together to strengthen the country.

The Catholic Bishops’ delegation, led by Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, concluded the courtesy visit shortly after 5 p.m. before departing the Presidential Villa.
