According to Ireporter Online, the presidency has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of making unfounded and sweeping claims regarding the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, said the ADC statement lacked fairness and accuracy, describing its message as more of a “doomsday broadcast” than a constructive national engagement.

The remarks follow a message issued by the ADC to President Tinubu on his 74th birthday, in which the party criticised the state of the nation under his leadership. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, claimed via his handle that the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope” promise has instead resulted in hardship and hopelessness for many Nigerians.

Abdullahi cited rising fuel prices and worsening insecurity as evidence of increasing economic and security challenges, asserting that the government’s response has been inadequate, leading to more lives lost and communities affected by violence.

In response, Olusegun accused the ADC of presenting an unbalanced critique by selectively isolating issues. He described the suggestion that Tinubu is celebrating his final year in office as “wishful thinking” and stressed that accountability in a democracy requires context, fairness, and accuracy.

“Fuel price and security issues are not isolated or simple; subsidy removal addresses long-term fiscal strain, and security challenges require nuanced, sustained responses. Nigeria’s democracy, though imperfect, remains active with diverse voices, not a one-party slide,” Olusegun said.

He added that the ADC’s birthday message, framed as a doomsday broadcast, reflected desperation rather than constructive engagement, noting that leadership in a democracy is ultimately determined by the people, not by politically charged statements.
