Bruno Fernandes Opens Up On Why He Snubbed Saudi Offer To Remain At Man United

According to Ireporter Online, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has disclosed that he turned down a highly lucrative transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal during the last summer transfer window, insisting his decision was driven by unfinished ambitions at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese midfielder revealed in a conversation on The Wayne Rooney Show with former United striker Wayne Rooney that although the financial terms on offer were significant, he ultimately chose to remain at the club following discussions with his family.

Fernandes explained that his motivation to stay was rooted in his desire to achieve more with Manchester United, stressing that both he and his wife share a grounded outlook on success and life beyond football.

“I stayed because I thought I still had something that I could give back to the club,” he said, adding that his family helped reinforce his decision not to be swayed by money alone but by long-term fulfilment and sporting achievement.

He noted that his wife’s perspective played a key role in the decision-making process, particularly her reminder about his dreams and personal goals, which helped reaffirm his commitment to continuing his career in Europe.

The United captain also admitted that he was reluctant to leave during a difficult period for the club, referencing their disappointing league finish last season, which marked one of their worst campaigns in decades.

“I didn’t want to leave the club at the point where we were struggling,” he stated.

With just a year remaining on his current contract, Fernandes’ long-term future at Manchester United remains uncertain, although his consistent performances are expected to trigger discussions over a possible extension despite ongoing financial restructuring at the club.

Since joining Manchester United in 2020, Fernandes has scored over 100 goals in more than 300 appearances and has lifted both the FA Cup and League Cup. He reiterated that his ultimate ambition remains winning major trophies such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

He added that individual recognition remains meaningful, noting that being acknowledged by fellow professionals carries significant value, especially when competing with some of the league’s top talents.
