The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, of undermining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) through actions described as dismissive and disrespectful toward party members.

According to Ireporter Online, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka made the remarks during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television. He alleged that the involvement of Atiku and his allies contributed significantly to the instability within the ADC, particularly in the handling of internal disputes and subsequent legal challenges.

Morka argued that the party’s legal troubles originated from a lawsuit filed by an aggrieved member who felt sidelined by what he described as external actors taking control of the party’s structure. He maintained that these developments were poorly managed by ADC leadership, further deepening the crisis.

He criticised opposition leaders for attributing their challenges to the ruling party, insisting that responsibility for the turmoil lies squarely with those within the ADC. Morka questioned why seasoned politicians, many of whom have held top positions in government, have failed to acknowledge their role in the situation, noting that blame has consistently been directed at the APC without any admission of internal shortcomings.

The comments come amid heightened political activity within opposition circles following a high-level meeting in Ibadan, Ibadan, where key stakeholders discussed strategies to present a unified presidential candidate in the next general election. The gathering was seen as part of broader efforts to build a coalition capable of challenging the APC and addressing concerns about the country drifting toward a one-party system.

However, the APC has dismissed such claims, maintaining that opposition groups must first resolve their internal divisions, particularly the ongoing leadership and legal disputes within the ADC, before attempting to mount a credible challenge in future elections.
