Tottenham’s Xavi Simons Set To Miss 2026 FIFA World Cup After Suffering ACL Rupture Injury

According to Ireporter Online, Tottenham Hotspur forward Xavi Simons has expressed deep anguish after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury that has prematurely ended his season and dashed his hopes of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Dutch attacking midfielder sustained the injury during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, after a collision with defender Hugo Bueno. Although he initially attempted to continue, Simons collapsed shortly after and was eventually stretchered off the pitch.

Tottenham have since confirmed the severity of the setback, stating that the player will undergo surgery in the coming weeks before beginning an extended rehabilitation programme under the club’s medical team. ACL injuries are widely known to require between six to nine months of recovery, effectively ruling him out of the summer tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In an emotional message shared on social media, Simons described the situation as devastating, admitting he is struggling to come to terms with the blow to both his club and international ambitions. He lamented the loss of his chance to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup, describing the timing as heartbreaking while pledging to remain supportive of his teammates during his recovery.

Tottenham also confirmed the diagnosis in an official statement, adding that further medical procedures will follow surgery as the player begins his rehabilitation journey.

Simons, who joined Spurs from RB Leipzig for £52 million last summer, has made 28 Premier League appearances this season, contributing two goals and five assists during a challenging campaign for the club. His injury comes at a critical period for Tottenham, who are currently battling relegation concerns, sitting 18th in the table with only a few matches remaining.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands are set to begin their World Cup Group F campaign against Japan on June 14, with Simons now forced to watch from the sidelines as he focuses on recovery.
