Lagos Shops Thrown Into Panic Over Gas Explosion
According to Ireporter Online, panic erupted on Tuesday in the Doyin area of Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State, after a gas explosion left one person severely injured at Adeleye Street. The incident reportedly occurred while a gas attendant was refilling a cylinder inside one of the shops situated in front of a demolished building, triggering fear among residents and traders in the vicinity.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the development in an official statement, disclosing that it received a distress call at approximately 12:23 p.m. and arrived at the scene by 12:34 p.m. Firefighters from the Sari Iganmu and Ajegunle Fire Stations were promptly deployed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures.
The agency explained that the explosion occurred in one of two shops located at the frontage of a demolished building on a half plot of land, stating that it was caused during the process of refilling a gas cylinder.
The injured gas attendant was rescued from the scene and immediately taken to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical attention. Although the injuries were described as severe, authorities confirmed that no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of the report.
The Deputy Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ogabi Olajide, stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the explosion, adding that further updates will be provided upon completion of preliminary findings.
