Why I Chose To Stay Single In High School – Ayra Starr Opens Up
According to Ireporter Online, Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has revealed that she deliberately avoided romantic relationships during her high school years in order to protect her image and avoid being publicly identified as someone’s former girlfriend.
The 23-year-old Mavin Records artiste made this known during a recent interview with Quenlin Blackwell, where she spoke about her early mindset towards relationships and personal boundaries. She explained that she was highly cautious about the intentions of people who showed interest in her at the time, noting that she often questioned their motives.
Ayra Starr disclosed that despite receiving attention from several male students while in school, she chose not to engage in dating, believing that many of them had hidden intentions. According to her, maintaining that distance helped her stay focused and avoid unnecessary emotional complications at a young age.
She was quoted as saying that her decision was influenced by a desire not to be defined by past relationships, adding that she was aware of the social implications that could come with teenage dating.
The singer also reflected on her current perspective on relationships, stating that she now places greater value on intelligence and mental connection over physical appearance when choosing a partner.
