FG Tightens Border Security As Ebola Threat Raises Alarm

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior, has unveiled new preventive measures aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s preparedness against the Ebola virus disease, even as no confirmed case has been recorded in the country.

According to Ireporter Online, the development was disclosed in a statement shared on the official page of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following a high-level inter-agency preparedness meeting held in Lagos on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

The meeting, which was coordinated by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, brought together key stakeholders including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), security agencies, and health authorities to evaluate the nation’s readiness and review existing preventive strategies against any potential outbreak.

The Ministry of Interior noted that although Nigeria has not recorded any Ebola case, the government is adopting proactive measures to prevent any possible incursion of the virus.

It further stated that the administration is intensifying border surveillance, screening protocols at airports, seaports, and land borders, and strengthening coordination among relevant agencies.

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the government is working closely with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other agencies to enhance monitoring and tighten security across all entry points into the country.
