Biodun Stephen Calls Out YouTube Viewers Over “One-Channel” Habit

According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian actress and filmmaker Biodun Stephen has criticised a growing mindset among some YouTube audiences who claim they only watch films from a preferred channel while dismissing others as inferior or unworthy of attention.

Taking to X, Stephen described such a blanket judgment as ignorant, stressing that it is unreasonable for viewers to condemn content they have not explored across multiple channels. She noted that while audience preference is understandable, outrightly labeling other creators’ works as “rubbish” reflects a lack of fairness and perspective within the viewing community.

The filmmaker further questioned how viewers could confidently make such sweeping conclusions without engaging with a broader range of films from different creators, adding that such attitudes undermine the diversity and effort within the online film space.

In her words, she expressed disappointment over statements such as “Na only her films I dey watch for YouTube, the rest na rubbish,” describing the sentiment as highly uninformed. She maintained that while individuals are free to favour certain channels, dismissing all others collectively says more about the viewer’s mindset than the quality of the content being ignored.
