Marriage Isn’t A Do-Or-D!e Affair For Me” – Actress Toyin Adewale Opens Up On Life Choice

According to Ireporter Online, veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has said that marriage is not a “do-or-die” affair for her, stressing that she would only remain in a union where there is no domestic violence.

Speaking during an interview on Biola Bayo’s podcast, the actress explained that she considers minor misunderstandings in marriage as normal and not sufficient grounds for separation. She, however, drew a firm line at violence, stating that she would not stay in any marriage where she is physically abused.

Adewale noted that leaving a marriage comes with uncertainty, adding that it is often difficult to know whether life outside would be better or worse. She disclosed that she got married in January 1993 with a firm decision to remain in the union as long as there was no violence. The actress also revealed that she welcomed her son, Afrobeats star Mayorkun, in March 1993, just two months after her wedding, and has remained married for over three decades.

Describing herself as naturally gentle in her home, Adewale also reflected on her acting career, noting that she began professionally in 1988 and earned her first ₦5,000 from a performance that brought her into the limelight after she and others performed before the president.

She further shared insights into her upbringing, revealing that her father had four wives, each of whom had one child. As the lastborn, she described him as a strict disciplinarian who made extensive arrangements for his burial while still alive to ensure his children would not be burdened after his passing.
