EkitiDecides2026: Initial Results Emerge From Polling Units

Voting has concluded in several polling units across Ekiti State as residents participated in the governorship election to decide who will steer the affairs of the state for the next four years.

Election activities commenced at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday across the state’s 2,445 polling units spread over its 16 local government areas. Reports from observers and journalists monitoring the exercise indicated varying levels of voter participation, with some locations recording impressive turnout while others witnessed relatively low participation.

A total of 14 political parties are contesting the election, while allegations of vote-buying were reported in some polling centres during the exercise. Ekiti State has 1,059,360 registered voters, with 1,028,929 eligible to vote after collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to reports from various polling units, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured commanding victories in many locations, particularly in Oye and Ado-Ekiti Local Government Areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded notable wins in parts of Ikere Local Government Area.

At Polling Unit 004 in Imogun Ilemio, Oye LGA, the APC polled 124 votes to defeat the ADC, which secured 10 votes, while the PDP garnered 23 votes. At Polling Unit 001, St. Peters, Oke Padi, the APC recorded 109 votes, ahead of the ADC’s 15 and the PDP’s four votes.

The APC also maintained dominance at Polling Unit 017, Awogbemi’s House, with 135 votes, leaving the ADC with four votes and the PDP with four votes. At Polling Unit 014, Isebi, the ruling party secured 87 votes, while the ADC and PDP received 11 and 10 votes respectively.

Further results from Oye LGA showed the APC polling 56 votes at Polling Unit 008, Imogun Eyin, while the PDP managed nine votes and the ADC secured three. At Polling Unit 005, Imogun Oke Eyin, the APC won with 91 votes, ahead of the ADC’s 17 and PDP’s nine votes.

At Polling Unit 009, Imogun Eyin, the APC emerged victorious with 52 votes as other major parties recorded minimal or no votes. The party also secured 79 votes at Polling Unit 015, Imogun Iworo, while the ADC and PDP polled seven and six votes respectively. At Polling Unit 007, Ilewu Compound II, the APC recorded 85 votes, comfortably defeating the ADC and PDP.

In Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, Polling Unit 031 at Eremide Market saw the APC win with 86 votes, while the PDP secured 36 votes and the ADC five votes. At St. Michael Primary School, Polling Unit 002, the APC recorded an overwhelming 227 votes compared to the PDP’s 65 votes and the ADC’s 14 votes. The party extended its lead at Polling Unit 001 of the same centre, polling 297 votes against the PDP’s 89 votes.

The PDP, however, celebrated victories in parts of Ikere Local Government Area. At Amuakun Hall, Polling Unit 002, the opposition party narrowly defeated the APC with 119 votes to 113, sparking jubilation among supporters. At Osagburu Hall, Polling Unit 008, the APC returned to winning ways with 64 votes, while the PDP secured 41 votes.

Meanwhile, Polling Unit 012 at Bokoaye’s House in Adegbemile recorded 67 votes for the APC, with the ADC and PDP polling one and two votes respectively. At Atiba/Aafin Ward 01, Polling Unit 011, the APC also emerged victorious with 13 votes against the PDP’s eight votes.

With voting completed in many centres, attention has shifted to the announcement of results by presiding officers at polling units before collation at the ward and local government levels. The final collation and declaration of the governorship election results are expected to take place at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
