PDP Clinches Rivers South-East Senatorial By-Election Victory

According to Ireporter Online, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Olaka Nwogu, winner of the Rivers South-East senatorial by-election held on Saturday.

The Returning Officer for the election, Rosemary Ogu, announced that Nwogu secured a total of 47,961 votes, defeating candidates from three other political parties. Douglas Beke Fabeke of the Action Alliance (AA) polled 1,175 votes, while Osarosaka Ebenezer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 1,647 votes. The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Sam Bariboa, scored 367 votes. The seat became vacant following the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi on February 19, 2026.

In a related development, INEC also declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Rabiu Shuaibu, winner of the Dawakin Kudu Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State. The Returning Officer, Prof. Umar Sani of Bayero University, Kano, announced that Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes, defeating his closest rival, Lawal Garba Haruna of the African Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 268 votes, while Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP) secured 98 votes. The commission stated that the APC candidate satisfied all legal requirements and was duly returned elected.
