Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will resolve the disagreements that emerged following its recent primary elections.

According to reports, Alia made the remarks on Monday while speaking with State House correspondents after a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting came amid tension within the Benue APC following the replacement of some of the governor’s allies on the final list of National Assembly candidates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing the concerns among party members, the governor said he remained optimistic that those affected by the developments would embrace dialogue and continue to work toward strengthening the party.

Alia noted that President Tinubu’s experience as a democrat and grassroots politician would help the party overcome its internal challenges.

“I know that there are some agitations from APC faithful after the primaries, but I believe that it’s going to calm down. Mr President is a democrat who understands this,” the governor said.

He further stated that the APC remained united in its commitment to advancing its political fortunes in Benue State, expressing confidence that the party would record improved performance in the 2027 elections.

The governor also pledged to increase President Tinubu’s support base in the state, saying the APC would work toward delivering stronger electoral results.

Alia explained that his discussion with the President covered key issues, including political developments, security challenges and humanitarian concerns affecting Benue State.

He said the visit was also an opportunity to appreciate Tinubu for attending the Benue at 50 anniversary celebration and for commissioning projects during his visit to the state.

The governor added that he provided the President with an update on the security situation in Benue, noting that there had been improvements, although challenges remained, particularly regarding the safe return of internally displaced persons to their communities as the farming season progresses.

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, accompanied Governor Alia during the visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
