2027: Atiku Should Wait Till 2031, Obi Can’t Defeat Tinubu

According to reports from Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sheriff stated that the North would not support Atiku’s bid for the 2027 presidential election, insisting that there is an understanding among Nigeria’s political leaders on power rotation across regions.

The former governor explained that the arrangement was established after the civil war to promote fairness and balance in the country’s political leadership.

Sheriff said Atiku, whom he described as a respected Northern leader and qualified presidential contender, should wait for the appropriate time rather than contest in 2027.

He stated that former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is also from the North, completed an eight-year tenure, making it necessary for the South to continue producing the country’s leader for now.

While expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu would secure another term in 2027, Sheriff acknowledged that the APC must intensify its efforts and remain committed to its campaign strategies to guarantee victory.

The APC chieftain also dismissed the chances of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 election, claiming that the former Anambra State governor would struggle to gain significant support from Northern voters.

Sheriff argued that political dynamics had changed since the 2023 presidential election, where Obi emerged third with over six million votes.

He further claimed that voters in Kano and other parts of the North would not support a possible Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket, alleging that some Northern groups had reservations about Obi’s political record as governor of Anambra State.

Sheriff maintained that the 2027 presidential contest would favour Tinubu, adding that opposition figures would face significant challenges in securing nationwide support.
