Presidency Describes Nigerians Working In UK Care Homes As ‘Modern-Day Slavery

According to reports, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the remarks during an interview on The Morayo Podcast Show, where he described the situation of highly educated Nigerians working in care homes overseas as a form of modern-day slavery.

Bwala stated that some Nigerians who believe they are struggling at home may actually be in a better position than those who left the country years ago in search of greener pastures.

He argued that some graduates with first-class and second-class degrees who relocate to the UK often pursue additional qualifications but end up working in jobs unrelated to their educational background.

The presidential aide said he considered such situations disappointing, adding that some roles performed by Nigerians abroad involve responsibilities that are even more demanding than domestic work.

Meanwhile, Bwala has also accused former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, of allegedly reacting negatively whenever the country records achievements under the current administration.

According to reports, Bwala made the claim in a post on X, questioning why Obi, who has expressed interest in leading Nigeria, would criticise certain government actions and developments.

The presidential aide further alleged that Obi has changed his stance on some major national policies, including fuel subsidy removal, state policing and foreign exchange reforms.

Bwala claimed that Obi had previously supported some of these policies before the 2023 presidential election but has taken a different position since the current administration implemented them.
