Bwala Warns Governors: Take Responsibility If Insecurity Continues

According to Ireporter Online, Bwala argued that every reported case of abduction within a state should prompt questions about the responsibility of the governor, especially as many of the incidents occur at the local government level.

Speaking during an interview on the Morayo Show, the presidential aide linked the growing insecurity in communities to possible weaknesses in local governance, coordination and the management of resources meant for public safety and community development.

Bwala stated that governors should not distance themselves from security challenges occurring within their jurisdictions, stressing that they have a constitutional responsibility to ensure the protection of residents at the grassroots.

He noted that since kidnappings mostly take place within local government areas, state authorities must be prepared to provide answers on measures being taken to prevent such incidents.

The presidential aide also raised concerns over the implementation of the Safe School Initiative, a programme introduced to strengthen security around schools across the country.

According to him, funds were allocated to states under the initiative to provide security measures such as fencing of schools, early warning systems and other protective structures.

Bwala urged Nigerians to demand transparency from their state governments regarding the utilisation of resources provided for security purposes.

He questioned how funds released for safeguarding schools and communities were spent, insisting that citizens have the right to seek explanations from their leaders.

While acknowledging that insecurity remains a national issue requiring collective efforts, Bwala maintained that state governments must take greater responsibility and demonstrate clear actions toward protecting citizens within their territories.
