The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) access codes required for the submission of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, while addressing journalists during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, alleged that the PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki was misleading Nigerians over its claim of controlling the party structure.

According to Ireporter Online, the FCT Minister stated that INEC only provides candidate upload access codes to political parties it recognises, insisting that the electoral body had issued the codes to the PDP faction aligned with him.

He further disclosed that his group had commenced the process of uploading candidates for the forthcoming elections, while questioning whether the Turaki-led faction had received similar approval from the electoral commission.

Wike accused the opposing faction of collecting money from political aspirants despite uncertainty surrounding its participation in the 2027 elections, warning that such actions could have consequences.

“This thing Turaki is doing, he has collected money from people, but it will backfire. INEC has given access codes to recognised political parties. Have they given him an access code? Which candidates is he selling forms to? They have given us an access code, and we are uploading our candidates,” Wike said.

The ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP continues to generate controversy as rival factions battle for control of the party ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
