APC: Shettima Visits Tinubu After Being Retained As 2027 Running Mate
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja following his confirmation as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to Ireporter Online, the meeting came shortly after the ruling party formally unveiled the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket during a stakeholders’ gathering in Abuja. Shettima was said to have visited the President to express appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and for being selected once again to serve as Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the next general election.
His retention puts to rest weeks of speculation over the possibility of President Tinubu choosing a different running mate for the 2027 presidential race. With the confirmation, the APC is set to contest the election with the same presidential ticket that secured victory for the party in the 2023 general election.
Earlier, the President’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, disclosed that President Tinubu had submitted his nomination form to the APC National Working Committee, confirming that he is the party’s sole presidential aspirant for the 2027 election. Dare also announced that Tinubu had retained Shettima as his running mate, officially reaffirming their political partnership for another electoral contest.
The nomination documents of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima were later presented to the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during the stakeholders’ meeting held at the Continental Hotel in Abuja. The documents were submitted on their behalf by the President’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
The event was attended by prominent figures within the ruling party, including Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma. Also present were APC governors, members of the party’s National Working Committee, lawmakers from the APC caucus in the National Assembly, and members of the Federal Executive Council, underscoring the party’s unified support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
