Keyamo Drops Evidence, Insists Peter Obi Must Pay Airport Parking Fine

According to Ireporter Online, Keyamo made the declaration in a statement issued on Friday after concluding an internal investigation into allegations by Obi that airport officials deliberately clamped the tyres of his vehicle as part of what he described as political persecution by the Federal Government.

The minister explained that the inquiry was initiated following widespread public reactions to Obi’s claims that actions of the current administration had made his activities increasingly difficult ahead of the 2027 general election.

Presenting the findings of the investigation, Keyamo stated that CCTV footage from the airport showed that the incident occurred on July 4, 2026, when Obi arrived at the airport and exited the vehicle before it was left unattended by the police officer driving it.

He explained that the vehicle remained parked in a designated drop-off area where drivers are required to stay behind the wheel, adding that the police officer also left the vehicle unattended for an extended period, prompting airport security officials to clamp its tyres in line with established regulations.

The minister stressed that security personnel had no knowledge that the vehicle belonged to Obi when they carried out the enforcement, dismissing allegations that the action was politically motivated.

According to the investigation, the officer later contacted Obi after discovering the vehicle had been clamped, and the former Anambra State governor reportedly spoke with airport management, after which the vehicle was released without payment of the required penalty.

Keyamo described the situation as a breach of airport security protocols, noting that leaving a vehicle unattended in a restricted zone for approximately 30 minutes poses significant security concerns in line with international aviation standards.

He further accused Obi of attempting to create a false narrative by portraying a routine enforcement action as political victimisation, insisting that the airport authorities merely carried out their statutory responsibilities.

The minister therefore directed Obi to publicly apologise to airport personnel whom he alleged were unfairly accused of persecuting him and to return to the airport within one week to pay the ₦25,000 fine for wrongful parking.

Keyamo warned that failure to comply with the directives would compel him to instruct the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to initiate further actions in accordance with the law.

To support his position, the minister released CCTV footage of the incident, insisting that the recordings clearly establish the sequence of events and disprove allegations of selective enforcement or political targeting.
