According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian foreign exchange market recorded fresh movements in the value of the naira against the United States dollar in the parallel market, popularly known as the black market or Aboki FX.

Market information obtained from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in Lagos indicated that the US dollar exchanged at ₦1,420 for sellers and ₦1,405 for buyers in the parallel market as of Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The rates serve as a guide for individuals exchanging foreign currency through the unofficial market, although they may differ slightly across locations and dealers.

The report further noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) continues to distance itself from transactions conducted in the parallel market, maintaining that it does not recognise the segment. The apex bank has consistently advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to obtain it through authorised commercial banks and other approved financial institutions.

Meanwhile, data from the official foreign exchange market showed the CBN exchange rate ranging between a high of ₦1,381 per dollar and a low of ₦1,378 per dollar.

Stakeholders have also been reminded that exchange rates in both the official and parallel markets are subject to fluctuations, meaning the actual buying and selling prices may vary depending on location, demand, supply, and prevailing market conditions.
