Senate Unveils ₦50 Million Support Package For Families Of Teachers, Soldiers Lost In Oyo Abduction

According to Ireporter Online, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the financial support on Wednesday during plenary, describing the deaths as a painful sacrifice in the country’s ongoing battle against insecurity.

Akpabio revealed that each of the families of the two teachers killed by the abductors and the three security personnel who died during the rescue operation would receive ₦10 million.

He stated that the gesture was intended to provide assistance to the bereaved families while acknowledging the courage and sacrifices of those who lost their lives while serving the nation.

The Senate President also praised the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their efforts in rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers after 56 days in captivity.

According to reports, the Senate had earlier recognised the security personnel who died during the operation that led to the safe release of the victims in Oriire Local Government Area.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele identified the fallen personnel as Lieutenant F. A. Isaac of the Nigerian Army, Private Silas Musa of the 81 Battalion, Nigerian Army, and Sergeant Abena John Jerome of the Nigeria Police Force.

Bamidele also disclosed that Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain of the 81 Battalion sustained injuries during the rescue mission.

The lawmakers commended the bravery of the security operatives involved in the operation, noting that their efforts played a crucial role in bringing the prolonged captivity of the victims to an end.
